Shorewest, REALTORS® Home Tasks for Spring

Spring officially starts this month and every day is closer to warmer weather, green grass and new life. While spring seems far away from southeastern Wisconsin right now, there are some great spring maintenance tips to keep in mind as the weather warms up. Start with any inside tasks and get to work outside as soon as spring comes!

  • Daylight savings time begins on March 9, so this is a great time to check and replace the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
  • Likewise, check out your medicine cabinets for any dated prescriptions and over-the-counter medications and dispose of them properly.
  • Use a screwdriver to probe the wood trim around the exterior of your house. Make repairs now before the heavy rains of spring can do any damage to exposed wood.
  • Clean out the garage and hold a yard sale with any items that someone else might love. While cleaning, be sure to dispose of paint thinners, household cleaners and pesticides properly — your city’s department of public works can tell you about the next hazardous materials collection.
  • Check for loose or leaky gutters, and make sure downspouts drain away from the foundation and are free of debris.
  • After snow melts or heavy rains, inspect your basement walls for signs of moisture. Consider running a portable dehumidifier to get rid of any excess wetness.
  • From the ground, examine roof shingles to see if any were lost or damaged during winter. If it’s time to replace your roof, now is a great time to start budgeting for one.

With these and any other home improvement tasks, your Shorewest, REALTOR is sure to help you find quality-assured home-related service professionals for all of your needs. Be sure to start out spring on the right foot with these steps to get your home ready for a new season.
